I sat in a theatre with 399 other Democrats of America watching the votes being counted during the recent US elections. First, Hillary lost Florida, then Ohio and finally after hours of hoping it might all turnaround for the better, Trump became the next President of the United States. As the reality sank in that Trump would soon follow in the footsteps of wonderful men like Abraham Lincoln and John.F.Kennedy, I could do nothing but cry. Actually, it was more like sob.

As an American and a Brit, this has been an incredibly tough year for me politically. My tears are, however, not for Brexit or for Tump, it’s for what they represent. The rise and triumph of bigotry, intolerance, ignorance and sexism. How can such a large majority of people believe in that enough to vote for a man and a referendum that divide people rather than unite them? It’s not how society got to this point again that shocks me, it’s how long bigotry and hatred has been socially acceptable as though publicly announcing on social media that you ‘hate black people’ is the same as saying ‘you hate chewing gum’.

In light of this, I believe it’s time for a card company to refocus their efforts on a campaign promoting a new card category; political commiserations and motivational quotes of solidarity. I also would like someone to create a Trump countdown calendar app so that for the next four years I can receive a daily quote by great women and world leaders so that they may not be silenced or forgotten.

Please feel free to download these and send our Trump Cards to people you love or to strangers who need to know they aren’t alone. I agree with those who have said that this is a moment for deep reflection. May love and kindness always trump hate.
